Early Residents
Around 3000 BC, these early Michigan Indians learned to make axheads and spear points from copper.  Over the next few thousand years, Michigan Indians built large earthern structures we call mounds.  Some of these structures still stand today west of Grand Rapids.  These structures date back 2,000 years.  The mounds may have been built for ceremonial or religious purposes.
